MUSHITARO - Satsuma-yaki Egg Yunomi Tea Bowl

Satsuma-yaki, a traditional Japanese pottery, is primarily produced in Kagoshima Prefecture. Tracing its origins to the early 17th century, it flourished under the protection of the Satsuma Domain (now Kagoshima Prefecture). There are two main styles of Satsuma-yaki: 'White Satsuma' and 'Black Satsuma.' White Satsuma is known for its flamboyant and ornate decorations, featuring inlay work and gold painting. In contrast, Black Satsuma has a more rustic appearance with brown or black glazes, suitable for everyday use.

Satsuma-yaki often involves intricate carving and painting, requiring advanced techniques. White Satsuma pieces are typically adorned with vivid colors such as gold, red, and green, depicting landscapes, people, and birds-and-flowers scenes.
