TAMARYOKUCHA: Marishi Cultivar, 100g/3.5oz

LILIKU TEA

About Marishi Cultivar

Marishi has a sweet aroma unique to this variety, and is a well-balanced tea with sweetness, astringency, and umami. Marishi was highly evaluated with its beautiful color, a strong aroma, and a pleasant flavor. However, the producer passed away and the production of Marishi had been temporarily halted. It was not available in the market for several years after that. After that, production was revived, but still low volume and it is a very rare variety.

This Marishi is made using the tamaryokucha method which is similar to sencha. The difference is the last step, where the tea leaves are dried in a revolving drum with hot air, while sencha is straightened using tea roller. After this final step, tamaryokucha has a curly shape. This curly shape allows the tea leaves to open more slowly than sencha, which generates mellower, less astringent flavor.
