About Washi Notebook

Washi is traditional Japanese paper made using the fibers of various plants.

History: The history of washi dates back to the 5th or 6th century. Since then, its quality has been repeatedly improved and it has evolved into a unique Japanese process. Initially, it was used for sutra copying and family registers. In the Heian period (794-1185), it was increasingly used by the nobility, and in the Muromachi period (1336-1573), it was incorporated into architecture. In the Edo period (1603-1868), production increased significantly, and shoji paper and umbrellas became a part of the lives of ordinary people.

Washi craftsmen: It is only through the labor and skill of the craftsmen who grow the raw materials for washi, produce it, and make the paper that the unique character, warmth, and humanity of washi can be conveyed. In addition, washi producing areas have preserved the ancient traditions and resources of Japan by using beautiful water, watermarking techniques, classical patterns, kimono patterns, and other creative ways that are unique to the area.

QUESTIONS

We store our inventory in two locations: Japan and the United States. This is because we currently have a large customer base in America. In the future, we plan to expand our distribution centers to other countries. For details on shipping methods and delivery charges, please click here.

We strive to deliver our products to our customers as quickly and affordably as possible by stocking them in both Japan and the United States wherever feasible. However, some of our products, especially those with limited stock or high popularity among customers worldwide, are only stocked in Japan.
