About Satsuma-yaki

Satsuma-yaki, a traditional Japanese pottery, is primarily produced in Kagoshima Prefecture. Tracing its origins to the early 17th century, it flourished under the protection of the Satsuma Domain (now Kagoshima Prefecture). There are two main styles of Satsuma-yaki: 'White Satsuma' and 'Black Satsuma.' White Satsuma is known for its flamboyant and ornate decorations, featuring inlay work and gold painting. In contrast, Black Satsuma has a more rustic appearance with brown or black glazes, suitable for everyday use.

Satsuma-yaki often involves intricate carving and painting, requiring advanced techniques. White Satsuma pieces are typically adorned with vivid colors such as gold, red, and green, depicting landscapes, people, and birds-and-flowers scenes. On the other hand, Black Satsuma focuses on the simplicity of its appearance and the quality of its finish.

Satsuma-yaki ceramics come in various forms including tea ceremony utensils, vases, plates, and decorative objects. Its beauty and artistry hold a significant place in Japanese ceramic culture.

We store our inventory in two locations: Japan and the United States. This is because we currently have a large customer base in America. In the future, we plan to expand our distribution centers to other countries. For details on shipping methods and delivery charges, please click here.

We strive to deliver our products to our customers as quickly and affordably as possible by stocking them in both Japan and the United States wherever feasible. However, some of our teaware, especially those with limited stock or high popularity among customers worldwide, are only stocked in Japan.
